FAQs

We know weddings can sometimes be overwhelming and full of lots of new expereinces so we have put together a list of questions that brides frequently ask us when shopping with us.

Our dresses range from £700 to £2500, with the majority sitting between £1900. We include prices of individual gowns on our website so if you are after a particular dress you can look up its price. We do also sell our dresses off the rail and offer these at a reduced price, discount on ready to wear dresses will vary dependant on age and condition of dress.

We are a size inclusive shop. One of our main goals is to have samples in sizes that all our brides can try. We currently stock samples from a size 6 to size 28. Wedding dresses tend to run a little small by 1 to 2 sizes so if you are a size 10 on the high street you can expect to wear anywhere between a size 10 to 14 in bridal, dependant on designer and silhouette. Don’t let this worry you though, it is possible to try on dresses that are not in your size. Most A-line dresses can be tried by a wide variety sizes, fitted dresses are a little trickier and need to reasonably fit the hip.

There is no wrong or right answer to this question. Some people are so excited to find their gown and will start immediately after getting engaged and others prefer to wait. Based on our experience 12 to 18 months before the big day tends to work really well for most people. If you intend to purchase a made to order dress you will need to leave enough time for the gown to be made and delivered which can take between 3 to 6 months dependant on the designer, we then need about 2 months to complete alterations.

Yes all of our dresses are available to purchase off the rail (ready to wear). All ready to wear dresses are available at a reduced price from 5% up to 70% off depending on age and condition

We get asked this question a lot and we don’t believe there is one simple answer. We have found that its less about you only suiting one style of dress for your body shape and more about getting the right proportions and fabric. For instance you want the waist of a dress to hit you in the smallest part of your waist to achieve the most flattering look. During your visit we will help navigate you to the best style of dresses for you.

Yes, we operate by appointment only and so you will need an appointment to come and visit us. You can book this online or give us a call to book over the phone.

We book our appointment slots for 2 hours to give you plenty of time to try on as many dresses as you wish. On average appointments last 60 to 90 minutes.

There is no hard and fast rule to this, you can come on your own or with a few of your nearest and dearest. Know that finding your dress can happen when you least expect, so it is always best to bring the people you want by your side to allow you to say yes. In our experience 3 people or less work best, too many guests and it can get a little overwhelming. Remember once you have found your dress you can always come back to try it on with others you might want to share it with. Please note we can accommodate a maximum of 5 guests in store (including the bride) at any one time.

We love children but your appointment should be about you as a bride and not as a mum. In our experience the appointment can be stressful for the bride if you are more worried about children behaving. If you have no other option than to bring little ones with you we ask that you ensure you bring someone with you that can look after them. We also ask that children remain seated throughout the appointment. Please feel free to bring something like a tablet to keep them amused as your appointment can last 1-2 hours. Please note we do not allow food in store.

Wear what you feel comfortable in. The dresses can be tricky to get in and out of, we do give you privacy to dress your self but occasionally a stylist may need to help you in or out of a dress. We can provide a dressing gown for modesty but some brides prefer to wear leggings, tights or a body suit. If possible try to wear neutral coloured underwear and if you have a strapless bra that is also handy.

No we have shoes available in store that you can use to try on with dresses and we have a bridal pedestal for you to stand on so the gown won’t pool at your feet.

Typically it takes 3-6 months for a dress to be made to order, each designer has their own delivery timeframe. We recommend considering this when deciding when to start shopping for your wedding dress. Also remember that most dresses will require alterations and we like to allow about 8 weeks for that process.

Yes 90% of brides require some sort of alterations to achieve the perfect fit. Once you choose your gown we can discuss what sort of alterations are likely.

We do not employ a seamstress directly however we work with some amazing talented local seamstresses that we can refer you to. You are under no obligation to use any of these services.

We do offer a limited fitting service in store where a seamstress will join us to fit you, this gives you a seamless transition into the alteration process.

No, any alterations required to achieve the perfect fit or change the design of a dress after it arrives are not included in the cost of the gown.

This will vary greatly depending on the amount of alterations required to achieve the perfect fit and the complexity of the design of the dress. On average we recommend our brides to budget about £300 to cover alterations, this is approximate and actual costs can only be given by a seamstress when they see you in your dress.

The Seamstresses we work with are highly skilled and it takes time to complete your alterations. On average it can take 15 hours+ to do a standard alteration which would include hem, waist, bust and shoulders and this doesn’t include the 2 to 3 times they see you for fittings.

Typically alterations take 6 to 8 weeks and in that time you will have 2 to 3 fittings with the last fitting usually being no more than a few weeks before the wedding. The busiest time for a seamstress is over the summer months from about May to August so we always recommend booking your first fitting a couple of months before you need it to ensure they have the capacity to complete your alterations.

In theory absolutely, but we would always recommend that anyone you take your dress to has relevant experience of altering wedding dresses. Wedding dress alterations are often very complex and is unlike nipping in a pair of trousers, mending a hole or taking up a hem.
